Our Artspace member Sue Foster is having her excellent, abstract landscape, oil painting 'Iford Hill,’ exhibited as part of The Sussex Contemporary's Shelter exhibition this November.
Sue applied to the Newhaven galleries open call on the theme of shelter, and her painting was successfully selected by a panel of judges to take part in the show alongside other successful artists throughout Sussex.
We are very proud that Sue's beautiful work has being selected. Her colourful paintings are popular in our studio, and we are certain that Ilford Hill will be just as popular with those viewing it on the walls of this amazing exhibition.
The location of the Sussex Contemporary show is Studio Newhaven, Marine Workshops, BN9 0ER.
The exhibition runs from the 7th of November to the 29th of November.
A free exhibition, open to all, Thursday – Saturday, 11am – 4pm, and 11am – 3pm on Sundays.
We strongly recommend that you go and see Sue’s work for yourself in person, as photograph's don't do it justice.
Sue explains her process for her paintings as initially creating sketchbook field paintings, then reducing these forms into simple shapes and planes of colour, thereby creating a simpler interpretation of the original idea, while leaving parts of previous layers visible to hint at the different stages and progress of the paintings.
We think the results are amazing. Sue had this to say on Iford Hill:
"This is a painting I did from a watercolour at Iford hill. I am very pleased it got chosen for The Sussex Contemporary in Newhaven."
