On Friday 8th May - 7 Artspace studio members ventured over to Chichester's Pallant House Gallery to catch the William Nicholson exhibition as well as other key pieces from their permanant collection. A big thank you to Emily R, Lucy and the rest of the Community Programme team for their kind encouragement and hospitality as ever!
William Nicholson (1872-1949) was a British painter, printmaker, and illustrator known for his still-life, landscape and portrait works, as well as his innovative graphic designs.
We also went to Chichester Cathedral to see John Piper's High Altar tapestry on our way home.
Karen really appreciated being able to hang out with Artspace members who attend on other days than herself.
"It was really lovely to see work from the gallery's collection. I appreciated the range and medium that Nicholson had used in his career. I was particularly interested in his illustrations.
Seeing the Cathedral before leaving was great, especially with the sunlight through the windows".
Emily B was blown away by Nicholson's prints, they reminded her of artworks by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. She also admired John Piper's vibrant and intense use of colour!
It was Abi's first visit to Chichester and Pallant House Gallery. She found the gallery layout very calming and well-lit. She was especially struck by artist Rana Begum's staircase installation. She loves the way it looks different from different levels, angles and perspectives. It carries a lot of depth and flows beautifully.
All in all a lovely, calming and inspiring day was had by everyone.
